Therapeutic Massage

I specialize in working with people who are suffering from chronic pain and stress.  My desire is to help you attain wholeness.  I recognize that each client is uniquely different and I tailor my approach by incorporating various healing techniques to meet your needs. I focus on Body/Mind/Spirit as a connected unit.

Formally trained as a Therapeutic Swedish Massage Therapist, I have additional training and skill in the following other areas:

Reiki, Lomi Lomi, Deep Tissue, Polarity Therapy, Soft Tissue Release, Manual Lymph Drainage, Aston Patterning, Tragger, Sports Massage, Pregnancy and Infant Massage, Therapeutic Touch, Aromatherapy Massage, Indian Massage, Reflexology and much more.

Clients often remark that I have a unique style that feels deep and powerful yet flowing and gentle; all while being very comprehensive.

I am a Licensed Massage Practitioner in WA State and am a member of the International Massage Association. I graduated from Brenneke School of Massage in 1994.

Some of the Techniques I use:

Massage Cupping

Massage Cupping is a tradition, time-honored treatment that is favored by millions of people worldwide because it is safe, comfortable and remarkably effective for many health disorders.

In this type of therapy,  specialized suction cups are used on strategic points on the body to gently loosen tight, knotted muscles.  The negative pressure that is created through the suction cups lifts, releases and separates the connective tissues, breaks up old scar tissue and drains stagnation in the muscles, while increasing blood and lymph flow throughout the body in ways not possible using compression.

Varied techniques use both stationary and moving cups.  The pulling action of the cups engages the parasympahetic nervous system thus allowing a deep sense of relaxation to move throughout the entire body.  People are often surprised at how relaxed, warm, and light they feel for hours, sometimes even days afterwards.  Cupping intensifies the therapeutic aspects of current treatments and is a subtle, yet very powerful addition to a massage.

Sound Therapy

The use of sound as a healing modality dates back to prehistoric times, when shaman chanted and drummed to heal people. In the ancient mystery schools of Egypt, Greece, India, Egypt and other centers of knowledge, the use of sound and music for healing was a highly developed sacred science. Sonic vibration was known to be the fundamental creative force in the universe.

The basic principle of Sound Healing is that of resonance; every object is in a state of vibration and therefore creates sound. This includes the various parts of our body, such as our organs, muscles, bones, etc. If these parts of our body are vibrating at their normal, healthy frequency, we call this state "health". If a portion of our body begins to vibrate at a frequency which is not harmonious to us, we call this "disease". It is possible to use sound to project the correct resonant frequency of that part of the body which is vibrating out of harmony back into the body, causing it to return to its natural frequency and return to a state of health.

In order to achieve this I incorportate the sounds of tuning forks, tibetan and crystal healing bowls as well as specific music designed for stress reduction,  relaxation and increased vibrational health.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being.

During a massage I use only medical grade essential oils for therapeutic application.  I use a number of different blends to complement your massage and further enhance relaxation.

Body-Mind Massage

As science progresses we have begun to understand that our mind and emotions contribute greatly to our experience of pain and disease.  We now know that the body will store unexpressed emotions and charged beliefs in the connective tissue and muscles of our body.

With this in mind true healing can begin to happen when we address both the body (structural imbalance and musculature tension) and the mind (limiting beliefs, thoughts and unresolved emotions). Through a unique process I will massage the affected area while engaging your conscious mind in a series of probing questions that will bring into the light the contributing emotions and beliefs that might be stuck in your body and thereby contributing to your pain syndrome.

This awareness will allow for your mind and body to work together to bring about reduced pain and lasting change.  It provides an opportunity for behaviour changes that support health. This is especially effective with chronic pain.

This unique style of bodywork was developed by me as a combination of my massage skills, coach training skills and my further continued understanding of the human body. The wisdom attained from this process is truly amazing.
